“In the post-pandemic future, governments who value trust will take steps to rebuild it. They will enact or reform data protection laws to ensure meaningful rights and real enforcement.”
A new partnership with the Canada School of Public Service is linking CIGI’s experts and research to thousands of public servants across Canada, including government policy experts. The New Economy Series workshops, which kicked off in May, have each been attended by more than 1,000 public servants. The first workshop featured Robert Fay and Dan Ciuriak speaking on the importance of the intangibles economy with Canada School of Public Service President Taki Sarantakis.
In July, Canada’s Chief Statistician Anil Arora joined Michel Girard, Taylor Owen and Teresa Scassa in a review of the data-driven economy. CIGI experts will continue to lead courses over the coming year, with two more held in the fall of 2020 (Karima Bawa and Myra Tawfik on intellectual property, and Susan Ariel Aaronson, Neil Desai and Patrick Leblond on governing cross-border data flows).
