Bio
Michael Den Tandt is managing editor of CIGIonline.org. He is a former political columnist for the National Post; former investment editor, business columnist and national security correspondent for The Globe and Mail; and former senior group editor for Sun Media’s community daily newspaper group.
He has travelled widely as a correspondent in countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Taiwan and Haiti. His areas of interest include security and defence, trade, Canada-US relations, diplomacy, geopolitics and media. He is a winner of the National Newspaper Award and numerous Ontario Newspaper Awards.
From 2017 to 2018, Michael was communications lead and senior speechwriter in the Canada-US unit in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, working on the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement. From 2019 to 2021, he was senior communications advisor and lead speechwriter to the deputy prime minister and finance minister of Canada. He joined CIGI in 2021.
