Kara Brisson-Boivin is the director of research for MediaSmarts, Canada’s non-profit centre for digital media literacy. Kara is responsible for the planning, methodology, implementation and dissemination of findings from original MediaSmarts’ research studies as well as for evaluations of its programs. Kara also holds an appointment as an adjunct research professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University in Ottawa. Kara researches the various impacts of digital technology and culture on digital equity and inclusion, digital citizenship, digital well-being and online resiliency in Canada. She is the principal researcher on MediaSmarts’ Young Canadians in a Wireless World project, which has been tracking young people’s online experiences since 2000. Kara’s work has been published in academic journals, magazines, news op-eds and research blogs.
