Bio
I. William Zartman was granted a distinguished honouree award from CIGI in February 2015 for his extraordinary contributions to the advancement of innovative global governance thinking and praxis.
He is the Jacob Blaustein Distinguished Professor Emeritus of International Organization and Conflict Resolution and former director of the Conflict Management and African Studies Programs at SAIS, Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, William is a member of the International Steering Committee of Processes of International Negotiations Program, Clingendael, Netherlands; the founder and current chairman of the International Peace and Security Institute in Washington, DC; and the past president of the Middle East Studies Association, among other influential groups and organizations.
During his career, William has also authored numerous books and articles on conflict management, peace negotiations and international security. He received his doctorate from Yale University and an honorary doctorate from the Catholic University of Louvain. He is a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy (Ret’d).
