Bio
Guangtao Xia is a Ph.D. candidate in applied economics at the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University (Beijing, China). He is also a research fellow at the Center for International Finance and Economics Research, National Institute of Financial Research at Tsinghua University. From October 2016 to September 2017, he was a visiting Ph.D. student at the University of California, Berkeley. From 2014 to 2015, he served as coordinator of the International Economics Reading Group at Tsinghua University. In 2012, Guangtao received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Tsinghua University, graduating summa cum laude. Guangtao was the 2016 recipient of the National Scholarship for Visiting Ph.D. Students and the 2015 recipient of the China Development Research Scholarship. He was also awarded a national scholarship by the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of China.
Guangtao’s research focuses on the optimal path of renminbi internationalization and the potential tripolar international monetary system. Since 2013, he has participated in several projects, funded variously by the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Bank of China. Earlier, he interned at CITIC Securities and Deloitte Consulting (Beijing) in 2012 and 2011, respectively.
