The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), in proud partnership with the University of New Brunswick Faculty of Law and The McKenna Institute for Digital Transformation, is delighted to co-host the upcoming conference, “Digital Transformation of the Canadian Financial Services Industry: How Policy Should Adapt to the Changing Financial, Technological and Regulatory Landscape.” This private, in-person event will take place over two days, October 3–4, 2024, in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

This conference will bring together high-level policy makers; entrepreneurs; finance, legal and technology professionals; and academics, to explore the opportunities and challenges presented by the digital transformation of the Canadian financial services industry and how policy should adapt to this changing financial, technological and regulatory landscape.

Key themes to be covered include:

  • the public and private sector roles in building digital infrastructure;
  • open banking and finance;
  • real-time payments and payment governance;
  • the role of artificial intelligence in the financial sector;
  • digital identity and privacy challenges;
  • financial network resilience and security; and
  • competition policy in a networked world.

Beyond addressing these individual topics, our goal is to help build and expand the relationships and policy networks necessary to capitalize on the opportunities presented by digital transformation, and to mitigate the inevitable threats that it poses to Canadian consumers, businesses and governments.

The conference promises engaging programming, featuring panel presentations, plenary sessions, keynote addresses and networking.
