Social Media Engagement Specialist

The Social Media Engagement Specialist is responsible for content development, marketing, and monitoring of CIGI's social media channels in close creative collaboration with the Public Affairs team. Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, the Social Media Specialist is a detail-oriented self-starter with excellent writing and organizational skills, a team player and a strategic thinker adept at crafting content that will inform, engage, and influence audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage CIGI’s social media presence across social media platforms and channels, such as LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube, Google (SEO), Substack and Medium.
  • Create engaging, relevant, and timely content in a variety of media, including livestreamed events.
  • Design and deliver organic and paid social media campaigns to reach target audiences.
  • Develop and implement social media strategies aimed at growing CIGI’s digital presence and brand.
  • Analyze the impact of campaigns using metrics to inform future activities.
  • Monitor CIGI’s brand reputation on social media.
  • Support the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures related to social media.
  • Provide education and guidance to staff and fellows on social media best practices.
  • Stay current with social media trends, new platforms and offerings to engage with new audiences.
  • Support CIGI’s communications, media outreach and commentary stream, as needed.
  • Optimizing copy and landing pages for search engine and social media optimization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective tools.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a meticulous approach to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Passion for creating engaging content and knowledge of emerging digital trends.
  • Enthusiasm to work collaboratively with the internal and external partners.
  • Ability to monitor and analyze a wide range of analytics and apply learnings.
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics and other marketing analytics platforms.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Digital Media, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
  • Three or more years of experience maintaining an organizational, or corporate, social account.
  • Proven expertise running successful paid advertising campaigns on social media.
  • Experience in media, journalism or advertising is an asset.

Note: This position is based at our CIGI’s Waterloo office where employees have a hybrid work environment.
