Finnish telecom giant Nokia has announced plans to turn its Canadian headquarters into a research and development hub, with help from all three levels of government. Experts say it’s a much needed investment to help Canada compete on a global scale.
"Canada needs to do more to ensure it has a stronger stake in technology. As Canada touts spending millions, China is spending hundreds of billions," says Dan Ciuriak, CIGI senior fellow. "This is an area that requires massive amounts of funding and we just don't spend anywhere near enough."
