In the "Four Internets: The Geopolitics of Digital Governance", Kieron O’Hara and Wendy Hall argue that the “splinternet” has become a reality as competing concepts have developed around how to run our online world. The two professors of computer science at Southampton university are right to say we should pay far closer attention to the gossamer network of systems, protocols, standards, hardware and organisations that make up the internet. The original promise of this wondrous technology must not now fall victim to clashing geopolitical priorities.
